What to do in Savannah, Georgia (in 3 hours)

Savannah, Georgia. It’s been on the list of places to visit for awhile now. We haven’t heard a bad review. And, yet, we didn’t quite know what to expect. During a recent family vacation to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, my husband and I were able to drive the 45 minutes or so to Savannah, Georgia, for dinner and a walk. We were quite satisfied with all that we saw, but the 3 hours definitely left us craving a return visit in the near future.
Savannah Coffee Roasters: As you head into town, grab a quick coffee or chai for your amble though one of the many squares. Take note of the cozy decorating style along with the promise of a Murder Mystery dinner later.
Stroll up Broughton Street to take in all of the big name shopping options.
Meander your way up Bay Street to take in all of the beautiful architecture, bridges, and brick streets below.
Go down to the River Walk and stroll along the brick paved streets, listening to bands along the river, going in and out of kitschy stores, and just taking in this “Bourbon Street with Kids” kind-of-feel the place has going on.
Ask a family of 8 to take your photo on some Historic Steps and feel good about the fact that apparently all kids bump their parents while they are trying to take photos ;-). (It honestly made for one of the best photos we’ve had taken on our trips because the smiles were truly genuine.)

Stop in at the Savannah Bee Company. Taste the Whipped Honey– any flavor will do– it’s all amazing. Buy gifts for others (and yourselves). Hold up the line asking the checkout girl where to eat for dinner.
Debate, debate, debate… It felt like we maybe stumbled upon two of the best restaurants in Savannah. They each had a completely different ambiance but were equally amazing. Here’s what we did, but we just as easily could have reversed the order as well.
Stop in at The Fitzroy for a drink and “warm up” (at least). Get the marinated olives (I’m serious. I’ve never tasted such good olives.) Enjoy the friendly and professional waitstaff. Take in the lovely dark green walls, the moody wallpaper, the luxe marble bar, and the elegant (and enviable) chandelier. Be tempted to stay for dinner. Do it.
(Get the look: — My inside photos didn’t do The Fitzroy justice, but please click the link above and check out their interior- it’s beautiful!– Add the marble top look to your home with this option from Target or to your eatery with this glamorous choice from World Market. And let’s not forget about the chandelier… This seems like a lovely option from Pottery Barn as does this or this more cost-effective option (which was on sale at the time of this post). You could also add some muted drama with this wallpaper.)
Or, in order to see as much as you can in the 3 hours, keep your place in line at Treylor Park, another unique restaurant you won’t regret. Decorated with paintings of airstreams and campers, rustic painted planks, and trendy strung edison bulbs, we were almost convinced we should become campers, although, I’m not sure camping includes expertly-cooked shrimp and grits tacos or a Chupacabra… Servers here were also great and dressed the part of the laid back and outdoorsy vibe of the restaurant.
(Get the look: Add strings of lights, plank walls, and pendant lighting as well as paintings of campers. Again, a click on the restaurant’s photos is worth it– so cute!)
And there you have it! Three hours in Savannah, Georgia. Next time, we will certainly try to visit more historic sites, enjoy the educational trolley ride, and re-visit some of our favorites from this time.
Have you been to Savannah? What should we put on our list for Next Time?

Savannah looks like a cute little town. 3 hours doesn’t sound like enough time!

It is so cute! 3 hours was definitely not enough time- we will be going back 😉 but I really felt like we chose the perfect places for the first of many trips 🙂

I was so sad when I went to Charleston, I didn’t have time to go to Savannah (I know it is a little close and I live in Texas). But, hopefully one of these days I can go to visit. Really interested in this Bee Store. Sounds so good!

That’s so funny! Charleston is next of my list for our southern trips 🙂 Savannah was wonderful and would definitely be worth a return trip. Savannah Bee Company is a great place to sample delicious honey and pick up gifts for home.

Savannah is a great town, glad you got to explore it. Any photos of the food you got to try at those places? Food pix can sometimes be a great way to showcase a place.

We had a great time in Savannah! I completely agree- but I need to work on my food photography 😉 I took photos of the food with my iphone but the lighting wasn’t great… I’ll post some in my Instagram Stories if you want to take a look 🙂

Nice post. We visited Savannah as a side trip from Hilto Head too! We also only had a few hours and tried the Paula Deen restaurant. I wonder if it is still there?!

Oh that’s so funny! It really is the perfect side trip 🙂 Hmmm… I’m not sure. There are so many great restaurants there!
