A Thanksgiving Table Setting
Hi and Welcome to Mackinaw Road, A Lifestyle Blog focusing on travel and home. Today I’m going to share one of my favorite things… setting a holiday table!
Many, many thanks to my wonderful friend, Jen, who took all of these lovely photographs!
Fall is one of the shortest seasons – particularly short this year in Michigan!- but I just love it! It truly lends itself to cozy and classic (more of my favorites).
As with most of the decorating I do, I love adding the old with the new, including one of my grandmother’s goblets and the other’s butter churn (not pictured, and, spoiler alert, we may be making our own butter this year again… yes, we have the most fun party games- haha!). I like adding the newer, simpler, and elegant soup bowls and plates to balance things out. The (also new) Dutch oven adds a pop of color and contrast.
I picked up the shutter to use as a centerpiece from a local antique store and found it to be the perfect base for birch candles and pumpkins, again finding balance with some live and some fake decor.
And there it is– all set for Thanksgiving in a week! I’ve never been so prepared. Now, for the menu… If you are looking for Thanksgiving recipes, don’t miss this post with my grandmother’s Green Bean Supreme Casserole (I love that it doesn’t have a single can of soup in it!). If you are planning way ahead, don’t forget to check out my Holiday Desserts from Around the World series featuring the best recipes for Baklava, Tres Leches Cake, and Almond Banket.
Already have your table set? No problem 🙂 Here is a Pin for next year…
Just kidding… I’m not finished! Of course after Jen took all of these great photos, we inherited my parents’ old sofa. Long story long… It didn’t fit up our 1920’s staircase and even if it had, our movers assured me it definitely wasn’t going to fit through the doors into my husband’s office where it was intended to go. So, it went into the dining room– that’s a thing, right? Sofas in dining rooms. Anyway, it’s growing on me and seems like it might make us actually use the room more when we aren’t entertaining. I’m picturing a cup of hot cocoa and a good book right now. When we moved the sofa, I ended up adding some of the decor on the console table (that we had to move also… it’s a vicious and fun cycle) to the dining room table and like the set up even more! So, here are just a few more photos of the dining room. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
