Dining Room Design Board
Dining Room Design Board WELCOME
Hi there! It’s been awhile. I’m hoping to get back into the blog swing now that it’s October. Fingers crossed. Gretchen and I have decided to enter the One Room Challenge (ORC- you can check out all of the entries and their progress on the One Room Challenge blog here) with a dining room design this fall and refresh her dining room. She has already incorporated so many lovely pieces since she moved in a few years ago.

The idea for a dining room refresh came about as we were adding board and batten to my niece and nephew’s nursery. As we were gluing, measuring, nail gunning, etc., we decided it would be fun to to add a herringbone board-and-batten wall to Gretchen’s dining room! And, since after about a half hour of you-tube searching, we finally figured out how to attach the nail gun to the compressor, we decided we were good to go!
You can check out the halfway photo below (not really a BEFORE because Gretchen has already made some gorgeous changes to this room ;)) Her wall color is Sherwin Williams Knitting Needles. Sooooo beautiful!!!
You can find a similar chandelier here. And the wall flower vases here. I think I may need those vases for my kitchen… I could even try to grow new plants during the winter months in them… Hmmmm… But back to the Dining Room design.
The Background
First, maybe I should back up and introduce you to Gretchen. She and I have been friends for almost 12 years!! We met at an attorney picnic when her oldest was just a baby. He’s now in middle school- stop growing up so fast! I’m super excited to enter the ORC with Gretchen for sooo many reasons. She has fantastic taste. She is a great high-low shopper. And she and I tend to dive in and “just try it.” Luckily, it almost always turns out great. Or at least in our eyes it does. No, it really does!
Between plastering a seam in my wall “just to try it”, putting up with my 55 pound “lap dog,” talking about Caribbean vacations, and about a zillion other things, we came up with this design board. I’m sure things will change as we go along, but this is our jumping off point. Not pictured: a herringbone accent wall we’ll be adding and a side table that we’ll be painting one of our all-time favorite green colors. Check back every week. In addition to DIY tutorials for the accent wall and painting the side table, we’ll be talking about chandelier options, possible dining chair slipcovers and more!
