Elegant Dining Room Refresh- One Room Challenge (ORC), Week 3 Updates
Hi! It’s the 3rd week of the One Room Challenge for our Elegant Dining Room Refresh, and we keep getting delayed. If you missed last week, Gretchen and I attempted to stain and paint a console table. You can learn everything we learned not to do (haha!) in the post here. You can see how all of it will fit together into her Dining Room Refresh here.
If you are new here, I’m Marta. Hello and Welcome! The idea behind Mackinaw Road is to create Travel-Inspired Design: One Trip at a Time. I gather inspiration from our trips and try to incorporate it into our home in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

ORC: We’re Not on Schedule and That’s Okay
We were originally/loosely slated to start the herringbone accent wall this week. There were a few reasons for this delay. As we were measuring the wall, we noticed some bubbling. Upon further inspection, we found it was damp. Looking outside, the corner that was wet was also a corner where the house adjusted into another section. We have had this issue at our house too. Unfortunately, it is usually do to full gutters; the part of lovely Michigan autumns that often gets overlooked.
So, while it may seem as though there has been limited progress. There has been quite a bit of progress. The gutters have been cleaned, and a dry waller/home inspector came to check out the damage and give us a plan of action.
In the meantime, Gretchen and I headed to a big box store to have some 1 1/2″ ish primed mdf cut for the accent wall. It was about $2 a piece and we are happy to not have to prime. After a lot of math and assuring the man who was helping us cut that we did not want to buy a saw and do it on our own, we left with the boards. They will have to wait until next week when the wall is repaired, but it did take about 45 minutes, so that is time saved when we are ready to start nail gunning.
Elegant Dining Room Drexel Table Update
We decided to do the entire console table in Benjamin Moore Salamander Green (one of my favorite greens!). The table is primed and ready to be sanded and painted! More on that next week. I think it is looking great already!!
Elegant Dining Room Refresh Rug Options
We think we’ve narrowed down our rug options. One option is to keep the current rug. It is lovely and looks brand new! You can find it here.
Another options is this beautiful and cozy rug. You can find that one here.
Finally, I’m a little bit obsessed the two option below as well.
Don’t Forget!
As always, don’t forget to check out the amazing progress of all of the ORC participants here! I love the variety of rooms being done and all of the different styles showcased in this fun and supportive challenge hosted by Linda Weinstein and media partner Better Homes & Gardens!

Love the table! 🙂 And I prefer the current rug and the last one. I’m not sure about the third–is that a picture of the whole rug or a small patch of it?

Thank you! It is pretty much the whole thing I think 🙂 I think we’re going to end up going with the current rug or another one that we ordered last week 😉
