Elegant Dining Room Refresh
Well.. we made it to Week 6 of the One Room Challenge! It was touch-and-go for awhile there. (It always is with me- haha!) But, I am so SO excited to share Gretchen’s Elegant Dining Room Refresh!!!
If you missed the original plans, you can find them here. I love all of our original choices and the ones we ended up landing on even more!!!

The BEFORE
As you may recall, this is our “before” photo. Gretchen had already done such a lovely job with the room when they moved in a few years ago. Then, as she was helping me put up board-and-batten in my niece and nephew’s nursery, we thought it would be fun to put some up at her house as well. And the dining room offered the perfect wall real estate. We decided to paint the room Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace as a beginning. Then we spent an afternoon going back-and-forth a bit deciding upon vertical board-and-batten, squares/rectangles, or the chevron. I’m so glad we ended up with the chevron!
Elegant Dining Room Refresh: The DIY Projects
We are thrilled with how the board-and-batten accent wall turned out. It adds the perfect amount of interest without taking over the entire situation. It is kind of like the perfect party guest- lol! You can read all about the DIY wall and our process (Gretchen came up with such a smart measuring hack!) here.
We (and again, I mean mostly Gretchen) also did a not-so-little DIY console table refresh. You can read all about that process, our debate over stain/stain gel/paint, and a cautionary tale about spray paint here. And that hardware! It is the perfect jewelry for the table. (The console table is painted one of our all time favorite greens- Benjamin Moore Salamander Green.)
Elegant Dining Room Refresh: The Staples
But back to the Elegant Dining Room Refresh. In my opinion, the chandelier is the show stopper. It embodies elegance and sets the stage for all of the other elements of the room to come together.
We were tempted to put the mirror over the dining table but then shopped Gretchen’s house (it’s one of my new favorite stores- haha!) and found this abstract art that tied all of the colors together and was the perfect size for the wall and table.
So, the mirror (similar) moved over by the hutch and offered a perfect frame for all of the DIY finished projects.
The table and chairs are the perfect size for the space and are now all set for an impromptu dinner party this weekend!
The rug is the perfect backdrop to tie everything together. The movement in the rug will also allow for worry free spills that sometimes occur around dining table.
Thank You!
Okay- I think that is about it!
Thank you for following along with our Elegant Dining Room Refresh and the One Room Challenge. It has been fun to watch all of the participants’ rooms all come together! You can check them all out here. Have a great weekend!
