Colonial Home Kitchen: Kitchen Chairs
Kitchen Chairs
Hi there! It has been so sunny this week that I’m already thinking about the summer at the Beach Cabin. The water is currently shut off there to avoid pipes freezing, etc. So, I thought I’d share how I incorporated a little beachy feel into our colonial home’s kitchen to get us through winter and back to those dreamy summer days.
Since it is very difficult for me to stick to one topic even though the space is tiny, I also included a sweet project that my mom did with the kids and a round up of our top dream kitchen chair contenders as well as a quick review of the kitchen chairs we ended up with.

This transformation actually took place this fall and I still love it, which I think is a good sign in this ever-changing, Pinterest world that I am so easily influenced by!
I started the transformation with the pendant light. I love it during the day but especially at night. It’s actually a treat to take the trash out and then look back into the kitchen to see the glowing calm atmosphere it creates. There is no doubt that this provides the coastal feel I love.
Also, purely reminiscent of the beach is the artwork created by my mom and the kids. (Someday we will get them hung on the wall properly.) My parents live about 7 minutes from the beach, and we also go on an every-other-year beach vacation with them. As such, this seemed an especially fitting craft. On to the project…My mom showed the kids some beach glass that she had purchased and helped them figure out how they wanted to incorporate the glass into the craft. Our daughter did such a fun clothes line with the beach glass as the parts of a bikini, and our son did a sweet scene with a dog watching a sailboat made from the glass. My mom sketched the ideas out with a pencil on sturdy card stock. The kids then traced her lines with a black marker and glued in the beach glass. My mom had them framed and matted and the kids gave them to me for my birthday last year. I adore them and think they go perfectly in this area!
Okay, since I had the lighting and artwork sit well within the “beachy” category, I felt I had more freedom with the rest of the pieces. The table stayed- I may still try to coat it in concrete but for now it doubles as our craft table so I decided not to invest too much effort in it just yet.
The rug is beautiful and is from The Counting House. I love that it is a printed rug, which means that clean ups and a quick vacuuming are easier for our cleaning lady (aka: me). The colors are perfect for the space, for having kids, and for having a dog who goes in and out of that door what feels like only a zillion times per day.
We ended up purchasing these lovely chairs on Wayfair, and they are so good! I love the lower profile for our space as well as the detailed backs. Of course we have had a few spills on them, but they cleaned up fairly easily. And, most important to the rest of my family, they are comfortable. I am so pleased with the quality and the price… Yay!!!
There were several contenders for our chair selection. In the end, I felt like rattan chairs may be competing too much with the pendant lighting and I wanted both the chairs and the pendant to stand out in their own ways. Below are our other top considerations for kitchen chairs. Some were just pipe dreams while others were more realistic for the budget. Ahh— how I do love a woven chair, though…

Bottom Row from left: French Bistro Chair, Upholstered Arm Chair, Frankie Side Chair, Gray Dining Chairs
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend!
