Coastal Boy Bedroom
Well… it happened. Again. I changed our son’s bedroom for maybe the 3rd time since he has been in twin beds. You can check out the original room here. And the dino version here. This time the goal was to create a Coastal Boy Bedroom. Our trip to California was so amazing and a place that just defines our family’s love of the coast, be it during Michigan summers and/or California winters. How dreamy would that combo be?!? But, back to that Coastal Boy Bedroom.

The minute that this print came into our house last year (maybe 2 years ago?) our son decided that he was no longer into dinosaurs. And, of course, the second I took it down, he was back into them. Haha- I just can’t win. Oh well. Dinosaurs can still be a thing. Just in the playroom. Because this room is going coastal!
I love that I can keep the FERRIS print above the bed. Although I’ve never been on a ferris wheel in California, the colors remind me of something you could find along the coastline. I also love that the colors tie in almost perfectly with the quilts. (I considered changing the quilts back to our original duvets but then remembered that there was a big ink spill, and it wasn’t an option anymore. Oh well!)
The new print is a photo that I took during our recent trip to Laguna Beach/Dana Point. I had the print done locally and am so pleased with the result. The paper is textured and I was surprised by how soft it felt to me. When I send a quick snap of it to my mom, she asked if it was a watercolor. I love the soft colors and calm of the surfers waiting to catch a wave. (Hopefully, this calm vibe seeps into the bedtime routine!)
I had lined the tops of the prints up fairly evenly. I’m not sure if that is what I was supposed to do- probably not- haha! Anyway, the space between the print and the top of the bed frame sort of bugged me. Then, I saw this pennant at The Counting House and I think it fills the space perfectly. Yay!
Can you see the jar next to the plant? It is volcanic ash! My parents gave our son some of the real ash from Mount St. Helens up the coast in Washington, definitely adding a cool factor/fact sharing fun.
Okay, that’s it for now! See you back here in a year when we change this room again. Just kidding. I hope!
