Mackinaw Road Mondays: Springtime, Sunglasses, Flowers, and More
Hi there! I wrote this post last week, before everything happened. And while we’re all a bit (lot) anxious and social distancing and praying for those who are and will be affected on all kinds of levels, I’m hoping that this can just be a little break and distraction from all of it. So, Welcome to Mackinaw Road Mondays where we cover five topics. This week, they almost all involve the sun or flowers… or both! How’s that for actually being semi-focused on springtime this week! And, after this week, a little springtime cheeriness is definitely in the cards.

As I mentioned in this post, there are certain rooms that I just can’t seem to leave alone. In addition to our son’s room, the living room is one that I keep tweaking. The floor lamp is ordered and should be in this month- I can’t wait! In the meantime, I switched out the ski print with this lovely floral watercolor. It is the perfect change just in time for springtime! It is meant to be positioned horizontally, but I think that turning it on the vertical works just fine, too. I love that it isn’t entirely an abstract or a still life. It seems like the perfect compromise of styles. You can find it here!
I also was watching Cass Smith ‘s DIY frame for her TV and was so inspired! (You can find her DIY tutorial here and her Instagram here.) I even gave a little Instagram poll to see what everyone else thought about trying it out. It was an even split between “do it!” and “leave it!”. So that wasn’t very helpful- haha! Actually, it was because it meant that I really couldn’t go wrong! The more and more I looked at our specific TV, I decided to leave it. Our tv isn’t flush (at all) to the wall which would require a pretty thick frame. Currently, the tv fits “just so” between our two front windows, which also leaves very little space for a chunky frame. And, finally, we hung the tv close to our console so as to hide the wires. Even without the frame, we sometimes have to angle the remote down so that they eye picks up the signal. (Not sure if that’s the correct tv terminology- lol!) However, I really don’t feel that I walked away from the tutorial empty handed. I started experimenting with how to add artwork to our tv and found that I could do this quite easily by adjusting our settings through our Google Home/Chromecast (Cass has other options for different tvs and streaming set ups, too!). While I cannot choose one specific piece of artwork, I can choose between different options, including photography or fine art. I can also choose how long to have the “art” on the screen before it changes. One final adjustment I made was to go in and turn the screen brightness down to minimize that tv glow. I actually am pretty happy with how the frame coordinates with the other black frames on the spring mantle.
The sun has been shining more and more in Michigan this month and I am here for it! My eyewear is not. Does anyone else have really bad luck with sunglasses? The lifespan of mine before they are broke, scratched, or lost is about 2 months. As such, I often opt for a couple of inexpensive pairs. I bought these ($14.99) before our trip last month. I also had a “fancy” pair of sunglasses from Quay (pictured above) that I adored but no longer have. They did last longer than the usual two months! Anyway, I went to their website to find another pair, and they have the most fun feature! You can try the sunglasses on virtually. (It also tells you the shape of your face, which is just generally helpful to know anyway.) I am trying to decide between this pair (at $39!) and this pair. Springtime, here we come!
I have been following @sparrowinlondon on Instagram for a few months now. The feed is absolutely gorgeous, and I am loving watching all of the flowers in full bloom. Even though I don’t think we will be making the trip to London anytime soon, it makes me so excited for our own springtime in Michigan! I think that my Pinterest and Instagram are talking to each other (or I’m just fully obsessed- haha!) because I’ve been getting all kinds of gorgeous London shop, restaurant, and flower pins in my feed. Okay, this last one is a bit of a stretch in the flower category, but I’m going to go for it anyway. I’ve also been using this deodorant for a while now. It is free from parabens, sulfates, aluminum, etc. And the scents are so good. I especially love the springtime scent of Lilac & White Tea.
That’s all for today! Stay safe everyone!!!
