Mackinaw Road Monday: Mood Boards & Headboards

Hi all! Apparently, there is a thing call Mood Board Monday. And, since we’re all hunkering down, I thought it would be fun to jump on that bandwagon. Planning and dreaming sound like a great escape. And, really, it goes so well with all of the alliteration already happening in the Monday title. I had signed up for the One Room Challenge this spring. Thankfully, it has been postponed until May. A bonus is that it gave me time to really consider my choices. You know, since I haven’t waffled enough over the past year regarding the Beach Cabin.

Anyway, I originally decided to refresh our Beach Cabin Bedroom. Here were the three choices that I was considering. I knew that I wanted to use our Juniper Print Shop print in the room. That the bed should definitely have a headboard. That I was going to keep the duvet. A jute rug would continue to work well in the beach bedroom. I also wanted to spruce up the wire shelves and add a place to hang clothing should we have guests who bring clothes that need to be hung. A quick little shade update on the sconces would be nice. The window treatments could also be replaced. And, of course, the never ending dialogue regarding whether or not to paint the wood and, if yes, the color to paint it. So, here is where I ended up… you can just click on the descriptions in bold for the sourcing. As everyone says, it really is amazing what a difference a coat of paint can make…

White paint would really brighten up the room and create a serene space for relaxing. Since the room is off from the main living area, the flash of white from the bedroom could help to lighten up that space too. Hmmm…

I adore this paint color! And, I think it would coordinate well with the cupboards that we painted in the Beach Cabin Kitchen. (You can check them out here.) I’m trying to stick to three colors in the Beach Cabin. For some reason, it’s hard for me- haha! Despite a recent SNL skit, I am obsessed with the depth of “colour” our other Farrow & Ball hue displays throughout the day (You can check that out in our space here.)

If you have been with me for awhile, you know I love a good navy. So, naturally, navy walls were considered. I love how the duvet stands out agains the walls. So good!

And More…

While I was looking for inexpensive headboards, I thought I might as well share a few others that I might consider. At the time of this publishing, they were all under $240 for a queen size, but some are much less than that too. I obviously don’t have experience with this many headboards, so I can’t vouch for them personally.

Headboards Under $240

Starting at the Top Left Column …

  1. Gray Cloth Headboard (same as Beach Cabin mood board)
  2. Caned Headboard (same as Beach Cabin mood board)
  3. Upholstered Panel Headboard
  4. Black Slate Headboard
  5.  Deco Headboard (Performance Velvet, Ink Blue)
  6. Curved Headboard (Crosshatch Feather Gray)
  7. Macrame Headboard
  8. Woven Fan Headboard

But back to the Beach Cabin Bedroom…

In the end, I decided to leave the wood walls. They are just so cozy and perfect for lounging and sleeping! We will update the headboard, shelving, shades and window treatments eventually. And then I’ll give you all of the details about our affordable duvet cover too! But, in the meantime, you’ll never guess…

I decided to not refresh the bedroom for the One Room Challenge. Lol! I’m doing the dining nook and am so excited about it! If it ends up anything like it is in my head, it is going to be gorgeous! I got a jump start a couple of weekends ago and painted three layers of primer. It already looks so so different! Stay tuned for the rest of the transformation and a mood board Monday in a couple of weeks outlining what the plan is. (I’m also super happy that R recently purchased a paint sprayer and I think I’ll try that in the dining nook. He showed me how to use it when he moved me out of the storage room and his 3rd music room into it- haha! This is the one that he used.)
