Cozy Autumn Living Room

Hi there! I’m back with our Autumn Living Room Mantel and Shelves. And a few other Autumn decorations thrown in for good measure too. All brought to you with the help of my funny and curious 7-year old (complete with cheesy Cheeto fingers). He had a lot of fun with the camera timer and jumping in to create blurry “ghost” appearances. But, you’re here for the Autumn Living Room decorations (sans the ghost shots), so let’s get to it!

Fall Living Room DecorationsI shared a progress shot last week. In that post, I had switched out the black frame for a lighter one. Well… you win some, you lose some. There were just too many stained wood items going on in the living room for my eyes, so I decided to revert to the original frames. (They also help to tie in the fireplace surround.) I love that the artwork has transitioned from spring to summer to early fall with us. The colors make it an easy piece that adapts to the seasons and decorations.

Taper Holders | Rose | Cozy Autumn Decor

The lovely handmade glass taper holders are a beautiful rose color. The taper colors can definitely help them to move through different times of the year. (I’m picturing a lovely mustard and a grey-blue for spring.) Also on the mantel is a vintage reproduction bottle that I’ve used in many places. You can check it out on our kitchen nook table in this post. The the muted pampas grass and the height it lends to the space is a favorite.

Cozy Fall Living Room | Rubber Plant | Planter

I mentioned the lovely and low-maintenance rubber plant last week, but she deserves to a shout out this week too. She’s the best! The turned leg planter is the perfect spot for her to shine. The shelves to the right are filled with books from my husband’s grandmother. The white ceramic pear plays nicely with the ceramic planter as it sits on Savor, for which the living room and kitchen have joint custody. The lasagna recipe is such a good one, especially for fall and winter! I (still) have no idea where the small vase came from but the colors go in well with the fall palate. I purchased the tied grasses what feels like a million years ago, and I think that they have stood the test of time/small children/a puppy quite impressively. As mentioned last week, the Indian block print was a wonderful gift from my sister and brother-in-law from their trip to India last year. (You can read a bit about our trip to India five years ago here.)

Cozy Autumn Living Room | Soft & Traditional Fall Colors

A few dried branches from our azalea plant that literally fell off the plant when I touched it, make an appearance. The candle wrapped in tree bark also offers a cozy autumn touch. The scent is one of my all time favorites.

Fall Shelf Styling

Pears are repeated on this side of the fireplace in wax form. Another grass bundle also creates balance without being too matchy. A cozy autumn blanket in traditional fall colors is always a good idea. (Bonus that it covers up cords and the board games stored in the basket.) Of course, I’ll always be reminded of our apple orchard trip (with my brother-in-law’s parents, R’s parents, my parents, and all the rest of us) by the wooden and metal M block.

Autumn Shelf Ideas

Let’s just ignore that cracking plaster. Or maybe even call it “charming character” of our 1920s house? The focus should be on the beautiful carved wooden box that my parents gave me as part of my 40th birthday present last year. It was a gift to my mom in 1967, and I plan to give it to my daughter on her 40th.

Fall Pillow | Autumn Shelves

The tassels on the pillow add just a touch of whimsy. And the color harmonizes well with the rug.

Cozy Fall Sofa Pillows

When the weather starts to turn all of the blankets come out at our house. The faux fur blanket is a definite favorite. The striped pillows with leather handles help to add yet another layer and detail. The lamps flanking either side of the sofa provide nighttime lighting. An open book always invites me to sit down and stay awhile, especially if it is by Lauren Liess. Just ignore the dream drawing on the wall that our daughter made for our dog, Crew. I think it’s been up there so long that I didn’t even notice it when I was taking photos- ha! (Crew’s bed is hidden behind sofa.)

Here are a few more photos… Of course, I will likely be changing things around throughout the season (I’ve already confused R with all of the moving around of objects), so if you happen to see another Autumn Living Room post in your inbox, don’t be surprised. Sources from this post are listed below. Oh, and exciting things are happening with the living room sofa. A new one has been ordered and should be coming at the end of November/early December! Fingers crossed that this one gets to go back into the dining room- even though I’m the only one hoping for this.
