Living Room Plans: A Sectional and Accent Chair Options
Hi there! I was planning on sharing a Fall Dining Table this week, but life got busy with a knee surgery and birthdays and soccer and tennis…. So, I’m going to talk about our Living Room Plans instead! Much like our son’s room, our living room is constantly getting updates and sometimes outright changes. While the tear down/complete TV makeovers are super fun (my favorite things to watch), the reality is that often times at our house the changes are sort of a slow burn. Switching things out one at a time. Or, often times experiencing a domino effect with one change leading to another and another. Such is the story of our living room.

**Also, since this is a planning post, I do not have experience with many of the products and cannot speak to quality, etc. As such, you will want to do your own research prior to a purchase.
When we moved into our home over 7 years ago, we had the room painted and also refinished the floors. I believe (it was a little fuzzy with a 3 year old and 6 month old) that we purchased a new sofa around that time too. I cannot seem to find a photo that doesn’t involving dancing children on the ottoman- haha! Anyway, here are some photos from the blog of how the room has changed throughout the years. (Just excuse all of the Christmas shots or we could pretend that I’m ahead on the blogger holiday game this year?)
This spring, R redid a storage room in the basement, creating his third music room and in the process “shopping” our home for the sofa from the living room. We then moved the sleeper sofa from the dining room (long story!) into the living room. It works and I love the leather sofa for its durability and ease of use, but it makes it almost impossible for us to lounge as a family in that room. And, given the impending winter/COVID-19/Cold & Flu season, we are planning on a lot of lounging well into 2021.
After much consideration, we ordered the Winslow Corner Sectional from Interior Define, which is set to arrive at the end of November/early December. (Because I could talk forever about all of the considerations and the process and the choices, I think I’ll save that for another post.) We customized it for our space and chose the fabric best for our family after having many, many samples sent to the house.
In addition to looking at the samples, there was also “spilling” on the samples, rubbing peanut butter on the samples, leaving the samples in the dog bed overnight, and some debating (everyone in this family has opinions). We ended up choosing a performance basket weave fabric in Nimbus. We also chose the T-cushions because we wanted the sofa to feel slightly formal as this is our only living/family room; we have T-cushions on our current chairs. The legs on the sofa were also chosen to coordinate with our chair legs. However, I was told that it is possible to purchase an additional set of legs, which could completely change the look.
So our current plans for the living room in December will look something like this. (The Dauphine floor lamp is by Visual Comfort in Aged Iron.)
There are a couple of things that may again result from a domino effect. First, I am not certain how the space will feel with a sectional and two fairly large chairs. We may need to relocate one of the chairs so as not to overcrowd the space. In which case, I may want to try my hand at reupholstering the chair. I’m also wondering about taking a chance with a rust colored chair? Or maybe boucle? Or sherpa? Or should I add some leather back into the mix? Here are some options I’m considering.
Larkin Swivel Armchair (Pottery Barn)
Roz Swivel Chair (Lulu & Georgia)
And if I switch out the chairs, I want to make sure that whatever is chosen goes with my second choice of sectional legs…
Back on track… Back on track…The other item that may feel the domino effect of the living room plans is the coffee table. In most photos I’ve seen of corner sectionals, there is a round coffee table to balance all of the straight lines. We will see if the oval coffee table will suffice or if we may need a circular table. We have a lot of marble left over in the garage from our kitchen countertops that I would love to use for a coffee table (you can see the marble in the kitchen here), so that is a strong possibility too. But, maybe I’ll save that for another time and another post…
Have a wonderful week!
