Where to Stay in Traverse City: An Michigan Airbnb Farm
We finally got away! And to such a charming Michigan Airbnb. The style was amazing. It was the perfect pandemic “getaway.” We had the farm to ourselves, complete with a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, and access to a 17-mile hiking/jogging/biking trail. We were able to order out a few (okay, almost all) the times during our stay from restaurants in Traverse City. Read on for all of the details.
The Martin House sits on one-acre and is listed by Marissa, who is a wonderful host. The 1900s farmhouse has modern updates and is very cozy. Upon arrival, our kids ran upstairs to choose their beds and R almost immediately settled into the portrait room. The house was impeccably clean and well thought out. We loved noticing all of the details- the antique finds, the layout, the collections… all the way down to the cabinet hardware.
It was a place that we would have been incredibly happy to sit and relax in all weekend. However, the weather was really nice for November in Northern Michigan and the trail was steps from the door. As usual, we lost the kids to the woods and a small creek. We also took advantage of the adorable separate game room to play some music and the fire pit to make s’mores. The yard was spacious compared to ours at home and the kids had fun kicking the soccer ball around.
But you’re not here to read about that! Let’s explore this romantic Michigan Airbnb, room-by-room…
Kitchen
The rugs and runners were all beautiful! There was art throughout the house and it ranged from the fun painting in the kitchen to portraits, botanicals and landscapes. Yet, they all went together in cohesive way.
Does anyone else choose their favorite coffee mug almost immediately upon arrival? I chose this beautiful hand-painted one for the duration of our stay. The modern elements like the sculptural light and chairs kept the decor feeling fresh and clean. Another element that we noted (and loved) throughout the house was the live houseplants. (You can read more about houseplants we have had in our own home here.)
Portrait Room
R made himself at home in what we dubbed The Portrait Room. The dark walls, the plaid chair, the leather couch, and the fern…. these were a few of his favorite things. The kids appreciated the apple TV – haha!
Sitting Room
The cane sofa and palm leaf print in this sitting room feel a bit bohemian and very vacation-like. R and the kids decided that this would be my “Reading Couch.” I didn’t know that was a thing or that I required a “Reading Couch” but I didn’t argue.
The monstera is amazing! We’ve decided to try our hand at growing our own monstera at home after the holidays. The marble side table lamp is one of my favorite elements- I plan to keep an eye out for something similar for our Beach Cabin. I am already trying to figure out how to incorporate the beautiful ochre color at our own home. It feels bright and deep and cheerful and moody all in one.
Another Sitting Room
The pop of ochre color ties in nicely with the ochre chair in the adjacent sitting room as does the coordinating palm pattern on the woven sofa. The framed plants in a grid pattern draw the eye up. The frames go together but don’t match giving the prints and frames a collected look. The wall to the left of the botanicals doesn’t demand attention, but the more that we looked at it, the more we noticed. The kanteen, the old time pot, the peg board, some stems, etc., etc.
Bathroom
The penny tile floors and pedestal sink made us feel right at home. The robes were a fun touch- and one our kids took advantage of right away. And the toiletries provided were also very nice. I even picked up some ideas for the layout of our main bathroom at home that I hope to share in the spring of 2021.
Upstairs Main Bedroom
Talk about luxurious! A claw foot tub in the bedroom felt lavish. I’m still working on R because he told me I couldn’t replicated this in our main bedroom in our colonial home. The wall sink and cart are such a great idea as well! Every space was utilized. The window was lovely and looked out over the fire pit and the woods just beyond that. I sat and watched the kids play soccer outside while I sipped my coffee. For about three minutes. Then, our daughter joined me and we had fun chatting and taking photos of this beautiful Michigan Airbnb.
Bedroom
The kids could not decide which room they wanted to sleep in. This was one of the options. They also enjoyed exploring the different toys that were there. And of course the “old fashioned” dial up phone.
Bedroom
This was the other bedroom. The wood detailing and cozy beds are lovely. The kids also loved that they had their own closets, to which they unpacked every last article of clothing they had brought with them.
Next Time
I had almost forgotten how much travel feeds our creativity and ideas. Although this weekend trip was only two hours from home, it felt wonderful to get away. The change of scenery and Marissa’s design style were just the inspiration I was seeking.
I’m trying to convince the family to try one of Marissa’s other beautiful properties (you can check them out by clicking the links below) but it’s going to be hard- we are all pretty attached to The Martin House and are already talking about when we can get back up there!
