A Simple Christmas Kitchen: Brass & Berry
I finally got around to decorating our Simple Christmas Kitchen. Despite trying to keep the kitchen minimally decorated, I somehow managed to incorporated almost all of the Christmas colors that were contenders this year. The best part is that the decorations I thought would be difficult to hang up didn’t give me any problems. It was a Christmas miracle!
I kept our entryway very simple. I’m sure our kids will decorate it with backpacks, shoes, and mittens when they get home from school. A simple glass jar and a mat for boots doesn’t distract from the kitchen hood decor.
I was very, very, very nervous to hang anything on the hood. It is one of my favorite elements of the kitchen and I worried about having to put a nail in it. Fortunately, the brass bells draped easily over the corners and I was able to wrap the ends to the side and secure them with a gold tack. Yay!
Even the wreath I made cooperated and was fairly easily held in place by the brass bell garland (and a little tape). Let’s pause a moment so that I can clarify the “wreath I made” statement. I purchased a lovely berry-colored garland without really knowing what I was going to do with it. I just knew I loved the color. (And I obviously love garland as you may have noticed in this Cozy Christmas post- haha!) As I was putting up the bells, I felt that the hood need just a little something more. Something simple. So, I clipped one of the five strands from the berry garland, wrapped it, tied a black ribbon to keep it together and tucked it behind the bells. A little tape roll and it was complete!
Moving along to the open shelves to the right of the range, I added an old silver NOEL sign and the bark candle with its handsome plaid packaging to what was already on the shelves, and they were good to go.
The window sill is HUGE. I often set our plates up on the ledge while I’m plating our dinner so that Crew Jones doesn’t put his paws on the counter and help himself. I tried to use restraint and keep the sill simple as well (and leave room to save our dinners from the dog). In addition to the wreath hanging in the center window, an open cookbook with our next recipe to try, a planter with a norfolk pine, a resin decorative tree, and the berry garland make the space complete. Bells hanging in the center of the wreath create interest and continuity. The ribbon on the wreath is black and coordinates with the black ribbon on the berry wreath. Let’s pretend I planned it that way.
The shelves to the right of the window also received some simple Christmas cheer. The snowman decoration is a hand-me-down from my mom. The glass jar with cranberries adds a pop of classic Christmas too.
And there you have it! Full circle. But, let’s swing back around because the rug is not something to be overlooked. The green goes perfectly with the cabinet color and the blush, terracotta, and berry colors tie in nicely with the rest of the kitchen.
The rug was in our kitchen nook eating area. Before taking these photos, I moved it into the cooking kitchen and it fits so nicely. It’s almost as if it was made for this space! It looks like we may be on the hunt for a new kitchen nook rug because this seems meant to be.
Happy Holidays!
