Green Kitchen Cabinets Options

Hi there! Apparently, this is catch up month! I’m finally sharing all about our Green Kitchen Cabinets.(You can check them out styled for Christmas here and for Spring here.) I LOVE our green kitchen cabinets but it was no easy feat to find the perfect green.

**As always, with paint colors, putting up swatches is so very important. Paint colors definitely look different in different spaces with different lighting.

Before we began the great search for the perfect green paint color, we had a bunch of swatches of not only greens but also grays and even a brown splattered all over the kitchen. Aside from the greens we were debating, I was also considering Benjamin Moore’s Coventry Gray but sort of wondered if having it in the dining room, hallways throughout the house, our main bedroom, and main bathroom would be too much. I finally decided that Yes, Yes It Would.

As such, we moved on to green. R wanted a dark and moody kitchen while I preferred a light and airy one. We ultimately landed on the perfect compromise. Dark cabinets and lighter tile, countertops, and walls. However, I felt that it couldn’t be just any green that was going to make this marriage of our two styles work. It had to be green-green or green-gray. Not too yellow, not too brown, not too teal. But let’s back up a minute, so you are able to truly appreciate this process/roll your eyes at my indecision.

I thought for sure that Benjamin Moore’s Gloucester Sage was the color we would go with. Admittedly, it is a bit more brown than green, negating what I just said about not wanting green-brown. I even went to a local paint store and got a big square sample. And LOVED it! How lucky that I chose the perfect cabinet color the first time. My confidence was soaring! But, because I’m a “just in case” kind of person, I also had a sample paint can mixed up. And all of my perfect cabinet color dreams were dashed. It was still a lovely color, but it was going to be too much brown for me once all of the cabinets were painted.

Next, we contemplated just painting the cabinets our tried and true color, Benjamin Moore’s Salamander Green. (You can see it in the Beach Cabin here or used on painted furniture here.) What fun is that, though? We both agreed that we should try something new.

I don’t usually have FOMO. At all. BUT, when it came to choosing Green Kitchen Cabinets, all of that apparently pent-up FOMO burst out. I debated/obsessed for a good 2-3 months about the perfect green. And if I saw a kitchen on Pinterest or Instagram with Green Kitchen Cabinets that I liked, I almost immediately headed to the paint store for a sample. R finally told me NO MORE GREEN PAINT SAMPLES. So, after about 3 more trips (haha!), I stopped.

At some point, we tried Benjamin Moore’s Deep River- I believe it is on the left hand side of the photo below with Benjamin Moore’s Deep Royal (because why not throw some blue options into the mix?!?) on the right. Both were a “no go” for this space.

My next options were Magnolia’s Wellington Green, Benjamin Moore Cushing Green, and Benjamin Moore Vintage Vogue (shown below in that order). I took a survey and Vintage Vogue definitely got a ton of votes. R said “that’s the one.” I just kept seeing some yellow tints in it with our lighting. I called my neighbor just to make sure I wasn’t crazy and she saw some yellow too. Confirmed. Beautiful color but not for the lighting in our kitchen.

I also ordered some sample pots from Farrow & Ball’s Chicago store. Okay, then I was done.

The Farrow & Ball Colors from LEFT to RIGHT are as follows: Down Pipe, Studio Green, Pigeon. They are all gorgeous! The bin pulls and latches are from Rejuvenation Hardware (you can find them here & here). If I remember correctly, I think that I ended up going with something else because I had wanted the Aged Brass finish and at the time the latch wasn’t available in that finish. (It is now!) Maybe I’ll work on another post with the hardware that we ended up with because it bears some explanation. Of course.

Soooo, I lied. As I was going through my photos for this post, I realized that I also went to Sherwin Williams and got Thunderous- top left- (inspired by this kitchen) and Pewter Green- top right- (inspired by this one). Needless to say, if you need any green paint pot samples, I’m your girl- haha!

Green Kitchen Cabinet Color | Studio Green We landed on Farrow & Ball’s Studio Green and I think it is the perfect green for our kitchen. I love it so much. It changes throughout the day, always keeping things interesting. I love the color all the way every time it changes. We had the color color-matched to a ceramic cabinet paint that was recommended to us. Everyone tried to convince us not to do a matte but R and I love a good matte/flat paint, so I went ahead and got a matte ceramic anyway. I love the sheen but am not the biggest fan of the amount of times I need to wipe it down. I guess the upside is that I know when it’s dirty and can clean it up straight away. Ish. Regardless, it is beautiful at all times of the day and throughout all the of the seasons.

Despite the major green kitchen cabinet FOMO, all’s well that ends well. I love the color we chose! Farrow & Ball Studio Green- I’m your biggest fan!
