Early Spring Decor: Living Room Mantel
It feels like a regular heat wave this week! It has me in the mood for some lighter spring (ish) decor. The cozy pillows and blankets can stay a bit longer since we usually get at least a few good snowfalls yet, but the mantel is getting an early spring decor refresh.

Let’s start with the mirror. I’ve been picturing an arched mirror on our mantel for awhile now. I shared some of the options in this post and landed on one that I think is perfect for our living room. We still have to mount it. It is heavy! I love how the mirror bounces light around the room and makes the living room feel light and bright even on the dreariest of February days. For some reason, the arch gives me a sort of Parisian vibe.
To keep within that feeling, I tried to remain a bit restrained with the spring decor. I added a few faux dogwood branches to a simple glass cylinder vase. (Side note: I’m not sure dogwoods actually grow in Paris, but they do grow beautifully here in Michigan and are a sure sign that spring has arrived.)
The monotone black candles in their black candleholders isn’t terribly spring-y but it does feel sophisticated to me.
In about a month, the trees and bushes should begin to show some buds. I plan to cut 2-3 branches and force bloom them inside. You can see the forsythias from last year in this post. I had no idea this was possible until a friend clued me in to it last spring. I love having fresh branches! Until then though, I really do like the faux dogwoods.
Speaking of spring decor, our grid gallery wall is finished! We decided to leave the photos as they are and show you the result. These are our favorite beaches. How is that for travel-inspired design? I know that framing favorite travels spots is not a new concept by a long shot. We chose our four favorite sandy spots. It was tempting to put a large piece of art on the wall. (Don’t be surprised if we still do in a couple of years!) But, having been grounded for a year now, we wanted to incorporate some fun travel memories into our home. Since this room serves as both our living and family room, we wanted it to feel personal but also pretty. From the top left, we included Lake Michigan, Laguna Beach, Paradise Island, and Hilton Head.
We can’t wait to travel again soon!
