Cabin and Home Updates
Hi there! Just some scattered thoughts and cabin and home updates here before I switch over to relaxation mode with finishing up summer and then scrambling mode as we get back-to-school ready.

Beach Cabin Vanity
I can’t remember if I mentioned previously that we are using my childhood dresser as a vanity at the Beach Cottage. Tearing out the red, orange and yellow contact paper was surprisingly sentimental for me. Anyway, I originally thought- Great! Let’s repurpose the dresser as a vanity and save some money. I’m pretty sure we did not save any money. The idea that we would be able to use all three drawers also ran through my mind. We can use one. Haha- oh well. The upside is that I do really like how it turned out.
You may also remember that we were using some remnants from the marble in our kitchen. Then, the marble top for the vanity broke. We replaced it with a quartz that looks like marble for increased durability. We are quite picky about our countertops and are super happy with how this quartz tuned out.
You can see the french curtain rod in the mirror reflection. It’s quite possibly the only type of curtain rod that I’ll be using for the foreseeable future.
Of course, the mirror that I had my eye on was the last one at the store and they almost couldn’t find it. You can click here for the black matte oval mirror. I also found some similarly shaped mirrors that I’ve shared below as well as the oval sink and similar wall-mounted faucets. Clicking on the photo will take you to shop. I’m hoping to take more Beach Cabin photos soon.
Home Updates: Kids’ Bathroom
On the home updates front, I ordered a new mirrored medicine cabinet for the Kids’ Bathroom awhile ago. It took forever to arrive, and then I questioned whether the matte black that I ordered was the correct finish choice. I think it is. The rest of the bathroom has chrome finishes, but the basketweave flooring has black in it as does the grout. You can check out the bathroom and the $25 grout refresh that we did last spring here. Anyway, the kids’ bathroom is teeny tiny and as they grow, we are trying to add as much storage as possible. This medicine cabinet will do just that.
Beach Cabin Bedding
When we first purchased the Beach Cabin, we quickly switched old items out for updated ones. We ended up using quite a few IKEA items. (I listed them all in this post.) If I’m remembering correctly, we were planning to rent the cabin out for a few weeks each summer. Needless to say, we’ve become quite attached and prefer to spend as much time there as possible. (My Google Maps is super confused.) Originally, we had chosen quite a few of the same IKEA duvet covers. I’ve decided to slowly switch them out for more personalized choices and keep my eyes open for Serena & Lily sales. In fact, they just had their Summer Tent Sale. I gave a little survey over on Instagram and went with the majority. I think that this coverlet will be perfect in our main bedroom at the cabin. Or, the downstairs guest room. Because I already have my eye on this one for the main bedroom. Slowly, slowly. Below are the options from the survey.
Beach Cabin Guests
Speaking of guests, my friend/maid of honor/Chicago roommate and her sweet family came to visit at the beach cabin. I had mentioned wanting to check out Anecdote the next time I visited Chicago. And guess what she did? She went to Anecdote and brought such a nice gift! Seriously, all kinds of thoughtful. The candle is sooo good that I don’t think I’ll ever burn it. I just want to carry it around with me at all times- lol! It will likely be in my Home Updates post a year from now, too. Oh, and the tea towels were so soft that I didn’t want anyone cleaning up spills or wiping their dirty hands on them. And now I can’t find them. Because I guess I hid them from myself too.
More Beach Cabin Guests
My sisters and brothers in law came out to the cabin on the Fourth of July. It was such idyllic day with time spent at the beach catching up, cocktail mixing, social gatherings, dinner, and fireworks. While one of my brother in law’s made some drinks, a few of us took turns using this fun hairdryer and brush in one. It worked on my fine hair and my daughter’s thick and curly hair. It’s seriously amazing. And so was the cocktail.
Nordstrom Sale
Nordstrom’s Sale is coming soon. Here are some items on my wish list under the Home section. Since this post has already run longer that I thought, I’ll be brief. I’m jealous of my children’s Hydroflasks. My son has a similar duffle bag. It’s the best for his age. We’ve used it quite a bit this summer. I love Pendleton. I have a similar shower curtain at the beach cabin (again, photos coming soon) and love the classic coastal look. As mentioned before, I’m keeping my eyes out for cabin bedding. Even though we don’t have lifeguard stations like this by us, beach shots still get me everytime. Stocking up on nice frames for our home or as gifts seems like a good idea.
I also have some clothing items on my wish list. You know I don’t like being cold in the winter, so a lot of the items serve that purpose. Although, thinking about winter right now seems like pure torture. The North Face has been a staple in our family for years now. I’ve never been disappointed. I had a pair of Vince Camuto booties and still miss them. I’m a fan of Free People sweaters. Madewell and AG jeans are favorites. Quay sunglasses have served me well in the past. I’ve had my eye on the sneakers shown below for some time now.
Finally
We went to our first outdoor concert. The last time we went was in 2019. The kids, a good friend, and I went blueberry picking. The place had popsicles. They were a huge hit and helped me have more blueberry picking and friend chatting time. Genius. I’ll post photos going along with these events over on the Like to Know It App. If you don’t already, I’d love it if you wanted to follow on that platform too 🙂 You can find me under Mackinaw_Road. That’s it for my Beach Cabin and Home Updates. Thanks for reading!
