Gift Guide: 8 Year Old Gifts
We currently have an 8 (almost 9) year old in the house. He has opinions. I’m hoping these gifts are not only approved by him but also by other 7-9 year olds too. Side note: my tween daughter will jump in on some of these activities we already own too. This list includes past tried-and-true favorites as well as new ideas.

8 Year Old Gifts
Nintendo Switch Lite- I’m just going to get this one out of the way first. It was on the list last year, and it is on the list this year, too. But will it be on the list next year? Only Santa knows.
RC Helicopter- Anything with a remote and propellers is sure to be a hit.
Drone- Same story as the helicopter but with an LED Glow feature. Perfect for our shorter, darker days here in Michigan.
Laser Tag- This could be a fun inside (basement) activity.
Checkers- Our neighbors gave us a super fun checkers beach towel. We’ve been laying it out on the living room floor to fine tune our game strategies before next summer. Crew thinks it’s entertaining too and occasionally steals the checkers. A table top version might be the more dog-friendly way to go until our beach days come around again.
Little Passports- I believe that I subscribed to Little Passports back in the spring of 2020 for obvious reasons. Even when the kids went back to school, we continued with the service because the kits are perfect for rainy and/or cold days. There are different age ranges for various kits. We did the science expedition for our monthly boxes.
Gravity Maze- Our 8-year old received this gift last year. It is really great for independent play and perfect for kids who like to figure things out.
Throw Throw Burrito- I believe that we’ve had this game for a few years now and it is still a favorite! Any excuse to whip a burrito across the room at a sibling or your parents- haha! (The burritos are super soft and (knock on wood) we haven’t had any decor casualties yet.)
Door Pong- Our house isn’t big enough for a ping pong table, and I think that this game could be our answer. In the summer, we have our ping pong table out on the deck at the cottage for the kids to play on with neighbors. R sometimes even gets an adult tournament going. Now, we can practice our hand-eye coordination all winter long.
HEXBUG- Our son bought a Hexbug kit sometime last winter on a whim. It kept him entertained for the entire afternoon. And week. And they still come out periodically.
Robe- It is a big deal to get the “good blankets” in the morning at our house. And then drop them in the kitchen, on the stairs, on the bedroom floor when getting ready for school. I’m hoping a cozy robe will help with all of those things.
Flannel Sleep Set- Speaking of staying warm during the cold winter months, our 8-year old loves his “flannels.” He has grown so much this past year, that he will definitely be needing a new set or two.
Suede Slippers- The cutest slippers I’ve ever seen. That’s all.
Soccer Sweatshirt- I love this sweatshirt for our biggest soccer fan.
That’s all for now!
