Why a Sectional & Some Options
If someone had told me that I would purchase four sectionals within a five year time frame, I never would have believed them. But, here we are. Below is a description of our four sectionals and why I love each of them.

Why a Sectional
But first, let’s start with why someone might purchase a sectional. One reason might be because the sectional is conducive to the space and/or room shape. Another is the purpose of the room. Is this the only “hang out” or family room in the house? Do you want a more relaxed and laid back vibe? Will people feel comfortable lounging in this space? If the answer is yes, then a sectional might be right. Finally, depending on the size of the sectional, it might be able to add more seating to a room than a sofa. So, if you are trying to squeeze a lot of people in the room for birthdays, game nights, etc, again, a sectional may be your answer.
How It All Started
When we purchased the Beach Cabin, the layout of the main room was slightly different. I knew that I wanted to move the dining table closer to the kitchen. I also wanted the fireplace to be the focal point. Because this was the only inside gathering spot, I had the goal of making sure that as many people could fit in the area as possible. Given that this was a cabin, a relaxed vibe was also intended. Finally, we didn’t want to invest in anything too costly, knowing that wet swimsuits and sand would definitely make a daily appearance. Having owned chairs, a sofa, and a chaise from the IKEA EKTORP Collection, we were confident with the comfort factor for the price. (As far as I can tell, this is the current version of our beach cabin sectional.)
The Second Sectional
We were so happy with the Beach Cabin sectional for all of the reasons listed above, that we decided to purchase another sectional for our Colonial Home. We wanted something durable and fitting in style with our home, so we looked into Interior Define. Interior Define allows you to customize your furniture. I ordered several fabric swatches and (purposely) spilled red wine on them, smudged them with peanut butter, etc. Once I had decided on a fabric, I chose tapered legs to go with the traditional elements in our home. It was a beautiful sectional and I loved the contrast it added to the room. For a sectional, it felt formal and was great for sitting up and having conversations. But…
The STAR Sectional
… I had ordered standard cushions and my talllll husband was not feeling it. He also was hoping for something a bit more lounge-y. So, 9 months later, when we were visiting family in Ann Arbor, he commented on their Arhaus sectional and how comfortable it was for him. I took that as my cue to go shopping at the Arhaus outlet the next day. And I found this sectional. It was a process to get it home but was worth the effort.
The Newest Addition
Our latest sectional was purchased for the Beach Cabin screened in porch. After hosting and wanting to enjoy the porch but not loving the crammed in feeling, we decided that an outdoor sectional would be a good idea. This sectional fits the porch like it was customized for it! It is incredibly comfortable for both reading and hosting!
