February Updates on Mackinaw Road
Hi there! We are getting closer and closer to spring. Yay!!! I switched out our mantel and took away the plaid (and then R added a little bit back ;-). On the docket from February: our living room mantel, a new book, a new travel-design book, art in the kitchen, new joggers, and planters I am eyeing from Anthropologie. But not in that order.

February Updates: Our Living Room Mantel
I like to incorporate hints of spring into our decorations starting in mid February. To keep our hopes up but also to be realistic, I tend to add faux flowers but also keep the black accents for a little contrast/grounded feeling. I love the new picture frame (a gift) with a photo from our most recent California trip.
**I believe the most of the permanent living room decoration sources can be found on the blog in this section. If you need help with any source links, just send me a message or comment below!
February Updates: Art in the Kitchen
As you may know, I am very fine with blank spaces and allowing a spot for your eye to rest. That said, after seeing oversized art in multiple kitchens, I was convinced that our space needed that as well. R and I spent one snowy day in Saugatuck, Michigan, searching for the perfect piece. And we ended up with this beautiful giclee print by local artist, James Brandess. It is amazing. He and his studio were spectacular to work with. The turnaround time was great. James even added a little paint to the print when I voiced a mild concern with the colors in one part of the painting going with our kitchen. I was just basically thinking out loud and didn’t ask for my thoughts to be addressed, but he addressed them anyway. I can’t say enough good things! We are thrilled with this new standout addition to our kitchen.
February Updates: A New Design Book
R recently stayed at Graduate Evanston outside of Chicago. He brought back a beautiful book for me (I think… he seems to also love looking at it) that contains Graduate Hotels in their respective college towns. For those who may be unfamiliar, Graduate Hotels are boutique hotels located in university towns that each embrace that town and university’s unique style and energy. I love looking at all of the individualized spaces and the thought that went into giving each hotel its own personality. A definite goal in all spaces!
February Updates: The Most Beautiful Planters
While it isn’t quite time to be considering outdoor planters (despite what Target aisles may indicate), indoor planters are always fun to peruse. I have my eye on these planters from Anthropologie. The detailing, texture, and soothing color would make a wonderful addition to any space (but especially our living room).
February Updates: New Joggers
If you’ve been with me for awhile, you know that these joggers are an all time favorite. I also love pants that can pull double duty (like these athleisure pants that can be dressed up for the office). These new-to-me joggers are a great option for travel. They are nice enough for the plane but can also serve as a workout pant while on the vacation. Oh, and they are super soft and comfortable, which is a must for me. (Note: I sized up and am happy I did.)
February Updates: A New Book
The Magnolia Palace was incredibly intriguing to me. Set in two different time periods, it follows a wealthy NYC family and a mystery that spans decades. It involves art collecting, a missing diamond, and a love triangle… all the classic components for a good mystery novel! By visiting The Frick Collection the next time you are in New York, you can almost place yourself in the book’s setting. Here is the link for more information.
Have a Great Week!
I’m hoping to be back on here more often as we transition from winter to spring, go on more trips, and celebrate more holidays in the next few months. Thank you for reading!
