A Red and Green Christmas… Again
Welp- it is official. I have been saying it for years and I guess I’m going to continue saying it for years to come. I cannot get away from a red and green (and plaid) Christmas. And, I’m not mad about it.
Christmas Living Room
I think that most of my inability to stray from the classic color scheme is due to our childhood ornaments. All of the memories tied to them will always hold a spot on our living room tree.
Even with the same decor, I mixed things up by placement of the items. The ski print usually sits on our mantel but this year it is making an appearance in the entryway. The pinecone garland was on our dining room table last year and now is in the living room. The wreath that typically hangs in our kitchen window now accents the living room mirror. Etcetera, etcetera.
I pulled out our birch tea light holders, fluffy yarn tree, and old stockings. New to the decorations is a North Pole Express print. I also added velvet and plaid ribbon to the tree to create a cohesive look and to tie in all of our meaningful ornaments.
Some plaid pillows and faux fur always feel cozy and festive, too.
Christmas Dining Room
The dining room is decorated quite similarly to last year. We are on our fourth year of having the kids choose an ornament for each other. It is the sweetest tradition and I hope that they continue to do this for years to come. (Oh, and we couldn’t resist purchasing the turntable ornament for R.)
I used last year’s mantel garland on the dining room table this year and kept the orange slices from Thanksgiving. The tree and hobnail taper candles in my grandmother’s taper holders are the perfect, subtle touch. The stems sitting on top of the hutch (that sat in my childhood dining room) usually reside in a terracotta vase but now provide a nice Christmas-y touch to the overall feel of the dining room.
Happy Holidays Everyone!

Here are some fun gift wrapping options I found…. probably for next year at this point but you can always look to see if they will be delivered in time!
One Last Look
And here are a few more photos… Merry Christmas! I’ll be back in the New Year with a review of 2023 Goals and setting (more realistic) 2024 Goals, too.
