Gift Ideas for 5-7 Year Olds
I’m back with several gift ideas for 5 year olds. It is so much for to have younger nieces and nephews to shop for! It brings back memories of when our own kids were that young (and also feelings of – Why couldn’t that have been invented when our children were little). Just like the Baby & Toddler Gift Ideas, I had a difficult time limiting the round up, so here are many options…

Gifts for Ocean Life Lovers
I probably should have titled this post Gift Ideas for 5 Year Olds who love Ocean Life. It is a great theme, and, as such, this is the largest section of suggestions. I love this search and find puzzle– not only are kids putting together a puzzle, but they can also then find all of the ocean life in the search and find at the bottom of the puzzle. National Geographic has such great books and activities- I know that our nephew would love this ocean reference book! I learn something new about ocean life every time we hang out 🙂 This non-toxic (and non-sticky!) ocean creatures clay set is perfect for 5 year olds. They can make the creatures themselves or follow along for step-by-step instructions on the free app. Some ocean animals, some not, but these arctic animal magnatiles are a great addition for any magnatiles fan.
Gifts for Dog Lovers
Our niece loves dogs and Crew is one of her biggest fans. This American Girl Corgie is so cute and fun! It would be the perfect pet to bring to tea/lunch at the store. This Lego and Friends Dog Rescue and Vet Center is so sweet and a great gift for dog lovers and lego lovers. Labradoodle slippers and a matching robe? Stop it, PBK.
Retro Gift Ideas for 5-7 Year Olds
While it pains me to call these gifts “retro,” that is exactly what they are and I think that they will be equally fun for kids and parents of my vintage alike! How much fun were Lite Brites? I’ll answer my own question- they were the best. This Lite Brite set includes a template for each month and even a pouch for the pegs. The Speak and Spell is a bit out of the age range but it seems like a gift they can grown into (and in the meantime, the parents can enjoy the original graphic and sounds from the 80’s). Who remembers grinding up ice cubes for the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine? It made a mess and was a lot of work, but the nostalgia (and snow cone) made up for all of it. This barely fits into the Retro category- we definitely had hot wheels and tracks when young, but add an RC component to it and it rises to another level of fun. Again, I am not sure this updated Kerplunk game entirely fits into the Retro category, but I do expressly remember playing a game very similar (although considerably more plastic) to this as an 80’s child. It was quite entertaining!
Gifts for Science Lovers
One of the most enjoyed activities for our son was the dinosaur digs. The mess was worth it!! He was busy digging out dinosaur fossils followed by identifying them followed by sharing his finds. He also went through a crystal/gemstone phase. I love this National Geographic Bundle, which includes fossil digs, gemstone discoveries, and crystal growing kits. The perfect gift for a 5 year old (or two)!
When the kids were smaller, our daughter did such a great job with our kiwi crates. They are hands on and have layers of education built in. This Crystal Chemistry Garden is the perfect way to incorporate chemistry, crystals, and garden growing (even if it is -10 degrees outside).
Gifts for Arts & Crafts Lovers
These pre-drawn canvas painting sets are perfect for 5 year olds who want to take their art to the next level. The canvas feels more professional as do the paint sets. They can work on staying in the lines and taking their time with these favorite 5-year old drawn themes.
With Taylor Swift being all the rage lately, what gift is complete without a little nod in her direction. This bead kit/friendship bracelet/eras tour theme has alllll the beads, including letters, charms, and even earring hoops.
For the Builders
This Glow in the Dark Building Fort promises hours of fun! I might even think it could be fun for parents and older cousins to join in the fort building process.
This Montessori Screwdriver Board Set can give your 5 Year Olds the practice they will inevitably need to help with actual projects around the house.
Other Favorites
I bought a star projection light for our niece and nephew last year and it was a big hit. This Moon Torch might be a fun additional to their outer space adventure.
The Invisible String is one my favorite books that I read to our children when they were younger. Its overall theme of love and never really being alone is comforting for children and adults alike. We are all connected by an invisible string 🙂
