A Whimsical and Vintage Christmas
Never is there a time of year quite like Christmas when it is an “anything goes” sort of decorating situation. This year, I attempted a both whimsical and vintage Christmas. Velvet bows, red ornaments, paper snowflakes, dried oranges, and vintage danish plates all add to the sense of wonder from years past. A Vintage Christmas: The Living Room As you know from this post and this one and this one, red will always be incorporated into our living room Christmas decorations. We have so many red ornaments from our childhood and Christmas is such a nostalgic time of year that not putting them up isn’t an option. So, the tree…

A Classic Thanksgiving Tablescape
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! While this article will likely be of little use to you as we head into the Christmas season, you can pin it or save it for next year. So, here it is… a Classic Thanksgiving Tablescape.

A Red and Green Christmas… Again
Welp- it is official. I have been saying it for years and I guess I’m going to continue saying it for years to come. I cannot get away from a red and green (and plaid) Christmas. And, I’m not mad about it.

8 Design Books I Own & Love
When it comes to design, it feels like it is every bit that art-science combo (as most things tend to be). I’ve read again and again that it is important to know the design rules so you can break them properly (or some variation of such sentiments). While the books below are not technically technical books ;-), I find them to be more helpful and to keep my attention considerably longer with their quick guides and lovely imagery. Below are the 8 Design Books that I own and love (and the reasons why).

How to Create a Meaningful Gallery Wall
With the bulk of the Beach Cabin Dry Bar complete, the next step was to decide how best to use the space above the countertops. Several options were considered. And, for the first time in our married life, we did not appear to need more storage. A gallery wall was the best (and most fun) choice. **This post contains affiliate links, meaning that if you click and purchase, I may receive some compensation at no extra cost to you. Thank you!

Beach Cabin Dry Bar
When we purchased the beach cabin about 7 years ago, I loved the idea of vintage movie chairs in the entryway. We quickly discovered that the varnish wore off with wet swimsuits and towels. Over the years, I have also been craving more storage space. My knees have been hinting at not wanting to run up and down stairs quite as much. Enter, our Beach Cabin dry bar.

Midcentury Lodge: Creating a Warm, Polished, and Unique Space
I’m so excited to share our friend’s Midcentury Modern Lodge with you! Disclaimer- I had very little to do with the overall design. I just got to come in, help with some art, one or two decor items, and play with the living room layout. It turned out great! (Pats self on back.) HOUSE HISTORY Before we begin, one of the fascinating aspects of this house is its overall design. It is considered to be a Passive House. I hadn’t heard this term previously and my friend explained that a passive house is one that is designed to require minimal heating and cooling. That is my dream house for both…

A Simple and Cozy Christmas
Happy Holidays! This year, I kept it fairly easy using decorations that I already had stored away, making for a Simple and Cozy Christmas. Well… not entirely simple. It took me three tries to take photographs. And of course I decided to do this in the midst of choir concerts, a flee market, and holiday parties. The decor was simple though! Thank goodness!!! A Simple and Cozy Christmas Living Room: Traditional Red and Green I had considered pulling out mint and/or coral from our living room rug into the Christmas decor. As I was taking out our ornaments, I just couldn’t do it. Red and Green (and all the ornament…

Fall Throw Pillows
Fall has officially descended on Michigan. The fall leaves are beautiful, and on sunny days, we spend as much time outside as possible. On rainy days, it is so nice to curl up with a good book and get cozy. This week has convinced me that it is time to switch out a few pillows on our sectional to fully embrace the fall feel. Here are some of the fall throw pillows that I am considering to sub in for my floral prints and summer stripes.
