Elegant Dining Room Refresh- One Room Challenge (ORC), Week 3 Updates
Hi! It’s the 3rd week of the One Room Challenge for our Elegant Dining Room Refresh, and we keep getting delayed. If you missed last week, Gretchen and I attempted to stain and paint a console table. You can learn everything we learned not to do (haha!) in the post here. You can see how all of it will fit together into her Dining Room Refresh here.

How to Paint a Console Table: Lessons Learned
Hello there and Happy Fall! I finally, begrudgingly, turned on the heat this week. I guess autumn is officially here! Apple picking and all the plaid blankets, here we come! This week, for the One Room Challenge, Gretchen and I semi-focused (it’s hard to stay on one topic and in one room!) on how to paint a console table that was recently gifted to her.

Dining Room Design Board
Dining Room Design Board WELCOME Hi there! It’s been awhile. I’m hoping to get back into the blog swing now that it’s October. Fingers crossed. Gretchen and I have decided to enter the One Room Challenge (ORC- you can check out all of the entries and their progress on the One Room Challenge blog here) with a dining room design this fall and refresh her dining room. She has already incorporated so many lovely pieces since she moved in a few years ago.

Beautiful Pendant Kitchen Lighting
Hi All! You may have guessed from the last post about Vancouver. Or the captions on Instagram. We have been on the hunt for pendant kitchen lighting. And finding inspiration everywhere. Just look at the lighting in these restaurants we visited. The Inspiration Beautiful Pendant Kitchen Lighting I have narrowed the list to nine pendants because even nine choices are too many for me to chose from! Just a little background… We have decided to paint our kitchen cabinets a deep green with aged brass hardware. This, paired with our old marble, is going to look very classic… which is exactly what R is going for. Me? I’m going for…

A 2-to-4-day Vancouver Itinerary
Good morning! If you are looking for a 2-to-4 day Vancouver Itinerary, you have come to the right place! Our family headed out to Vancouver at the end of June. We loved it! The best part about coming from Eastern Standard Time is that we had the entire day despite being in the air for about 5 hours. Our hotel was in Coal Harbor. Instantly, we noticed all of the kid-friendly activities. Also immediately, we were asked approximately 100 gazillion times about checking out the outdoor swimming pool and renting bikes. But before I babble on, giving a play-by-play, here is a 4-day Itinerary (followed by a 2-day Itinerary, if…

Ceiling Fans: Low-to-High Pricing
Welcome! Welcome to Mackinaw Road: Ceiling Fans Edition. After A LOT of searching, here are my Top 8 Ceiling Fans organized in low-to-high pricing. It All Started with a Nursery As you may know, I get to help with the nursery for my future niece and nephew (I’m so excited to meet these babies!!!) The nursery is coming along well, and it has been so much fun to get to visit with my sister-in-law every week! As part of the refresh, we decided to replace the current ceiling fan. Which sent me on a search for ceiling fans. And that is a bit of a rabbit hole, to be honest.…

The Beach Cabin Cucumber Fizz
Good morning/afternoon/summertime!!! I hope that you all had a great week! We are excited to celebrate the Fourth next week, to watch the fireworks from the Beach Cabin, and perhaps celebrate with our neighbors, family, and friends. The Beach Cabin Cucumber Fizz may even make an appearance! Living Lark Cocktails Back in May, my friend Kate from Living Lark graciously agreed to create a signature drink for our guests at the Beach Cabin this summer! So, one gray and cold Monday (as we do in Michigan), we got together at the Beach Cabin and she brought all of my favorite flavors and seamlessly created three beautiful and delicious drinks. It…

Cottage Style IKEA Decor
Hi there! Today I’m talking about Cottage Style IKEA Decor. More specifically, possible ideas for how to decorate a cottage using IKEA in a strategic way. Believe it or not, this Scandinavian style can fairly effortlessly be incorporated into cottage decor. We really didn’t mean to go overboard with our IKEA purchases and didn’t even do it all at once. And yet, almost every room has something from IKEA in it! I don’t think that you’d look into the rooms and think IKEA immediately. Maybe you would. For whatever reason, we don’t, though. Regardless, I think I’ll just take you on a little tour of our Beach Cabin and the…

Beach Cabin Screened in Porch: ORC, Week 6
The Beach Cabin Screened In Porch is finished! Sort of. I could blame it on the rain. Or a busy spring. Or training for a 25k. I could… Anyway, the porch is mostly finished. I’d love to add a new wall light. It has been purchased but needs to be installed. I also had grand plans of adding some curtains out there. We’ll see. The sailing line plans are also on a brief hold. (You can read all about them in last week’s post here.) In fact, if you are new here and want to catch up on the topsy turvy Beach Cabin Screened In Porch plans, you can click on…
