Midwest Christmas Tour
Snow days and travel difficulties signal that winter has officially settled into the Midwest. People working on the Beach Cabin had trouble getting up the hill and even had to shovel their way in. (But just looks at this beautiful progress!)

Philipsburg, Montana, Philipsburg Blue, and How They are Related
My brother has always been the adventurous one- in fact, at one point, he accused me (the definite homebody) for not preparing our parents at all for what was to come. So, it shouldn’t have been a surprised when he headed west to Montana after college. Just his packed car, his dog, Georgie, and hit the open road. Now that was brave in my book. He quickly settled into life in the small town of Philipsburg, working during the week and camping and fishing on the weekends. Aside from the somewhat regular June text that it was snowing, he seemed to enjoy being out west. I tagged along with my…

Friday Finds on Mackinaw Road, Take 10: Vintage Travel Magazines, Chatbooks, and a Travel-Related Gift
Happy Friday (again)! I have to admit that I really do look forward to these Friday Finds on Mackinaw Road days. I hope you do too! I also have to admit that almost all of these finds happened two weeks ago, but there was just so much to share around the Thanksgiving holiday that I decided to save it for this week. **This post contains affiliate links. Christmas is right around the corner and I’m already nervous I am going to forget someone’s gift. Luckily, the parents are taken care of with tickets to shows and sporting events and I have most of the other gifts too. I was…

Thanksgiving: At Home and Abroad
*This post may contain affiliate links. It’s that time of year– let the holiday family, fun, cooking, and traveling begin! I always look forward to the holidays for several reasons, one of which is time spent with family. Another is time spent with friends. Every holiday break, my college girlfriends and I meet for brunch to catch up. It is particularly special as it is one of the few times of the year that we are able to see a friend who grew up in Michigan and is currently living in England with her husband and children. She also spent three years in Norway. She and her family typically come…

Friday Finds on Mackinaw Road, Take 7: Planes, Bread, and a Reno Revelation
“Food matters because it’s one of the things that forces us to live in this world– this tactile, physical, messy and beautiful world– no matter how hard we try to escape into our minds and our ideals. Food is a reminder of our humanity, our fragility, our createdness.” Shauna Niequest, Bread and Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table with Recipes. Perhaps the same could be said of Travel.

What to do in New Orleans
New Orleans is known for Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street, but there is so much more to this charming southern city. From historic hotels, to trendy restaurants, and hole-in-the-wall bookstores, this city has much more to offer than red punch drinks and all-night parties. This was our second trip to New Orleans. We stayed in the downtown area, although we couldn’t help but revisit some of our favorites in the French Quarter.

Chasing Fall
While summer sun and lake time has my heart, there is something about fall that is simply magical. From the stillness to the brightly colored leaves to the sweater weather, fall takes a very close second (and only that due to the fact that I know what follows fall). Michigan autumns are simply the best- apple picking, pumpkin patches, rich colored trees… the list goes on and on… [This post may contain affiliate links.] We are always incredibly hesitant to miss out on Michigan falls. However, after looking at some of the Instagrams below, I may be more inclined to do so… Just look at this beautiful autumn foliage worldwide.…
