Gift Guide: Gifts for Him
You might find this hard to believe, but the men in my life are no longer the hardest to shop for. (That award goes to the 9 year old.) I could not believe how easily this Gifts for Him list came together.

October Updates on Mackinaw Road
October Updates What a beautiful month October was! Michigan really showed off her colors despite the constant weather mood changes. Updates this month include a book, an anorak jacket, boot options, a new duvet cover, an (almost) updated kitchen table, top performers for the month, and a review of October blog posts. (Not in that order.)

MIDCENTURY IN A NON MIDCENTURY HOUSE
MIDCENTURY IN A NON MIDCENTURY HOUSE Surprising even to myself, I find that I am drawn to midcentury modern (MCM) homes and furniture pieces. I think I love the clean but soft lines and the unfussiness of it all. It is likely good that I don’t currently live in a midcentury home because I would be ALL IN– lol. Nonetheless, my lack of a midcentury house has not stopped me from purchasing a few midcentury-inspired pieces for our 1913 Beach Cabin and 1926 Colonial Home. *DISCLOSURE: This post contains affiliate links/photos, meaning that if you click and purchase, I may receive some compensation. Thank you! Also… this is my interpretation of midcentury.…

Fall Throw Pillows
Fall has officially descended on Michigan. The fall leaves are beautiful, and on sunny days, we spend as much time outside as possible. On rainy days, it is so nice to curl up with a good book and get cozy. This week has convinced me that it is time to switch out a few pillows on our sectional to fully embrace the fall feel. Here are some of the fall throw pillows that I am considering to sub in for my floral prints and summer stripes.

Why a Sectional & Some Options
If someone had told me that I would purchase four sectionals within a five year time frame, I never would have believed them. But, here we are. Below is a description of our four sectionals and why I love each of them.

New Orleans Inspired Design
New Orleans Inspired Design When traveling to New Orleans, you instantly feel transported to a different place and time. It is rich with history and culture, which translates into some of the most classic design elements. In my opinion, anything that stands the test of a time is a sure thing in the design world. Read on to explore some of these elements, to learn which color wards off evil spirits, and to determine the difference between wrought iron and cast iron.

AUGUST UPDATE: August in New York
AUGUST UPDATE: August in New York Not only are we not in August, but we are somehow almost finished with September now. Yikes! School, fall sports, and travel sure does make time fly. Since I love the sound of August in New York, I’m keeping sticking with the August update. This August Update includes a weekend trip to New York City for the US Open. We had a great time! We also enjoyed the city. We combined things we loved from previous trips and added in some new experiences too. It was our daughter’s first trip to New York, so we also were sure to include some kid-focused activities too.…

Beach Cabin Exterior Paint Colors: White and Green
The Beach Cabin Exterior is Painted! The Beach Cabin is painted and I finally took photos! The exterior paint colors are perfect for this Lake Michigan cottage. The antiqued white color and the magical green that changes throughout the day are such a classic combination. This was not an easy decision. Although interior paint is a fairly inexpensive and easily remedied situation, exterior painting is quite the opposite. Getting it right the first time was a must. As a reminder, this was what the Beach Cabin looked like prior to its new colors. It was actually a beautiful taupe color when we bought the cabin. However, years of fading…
