Cottage Style IKEA Decor

Hi there! Today I’m talking about Cottage Style IKEA Decor. More specifically, possible ideas for how to decorate a cottage using IKEA in a strategic way. Believe it or not, this Scandinavian style can fairly effortlessly be incorporated into cottage decor. We really didn’t mean to go overboard with our IKEA purchases and didn’t even do it all at once. And yet, almost every room has something from IKEA in it!

I don’t think that you’d look into the rooms and think IKEA immediately. Maybe you would. For whatever reason, we don’t, though. Regardless, I think I’ll just take you on a little tour of our Beach Cabin and the rooms that house IKEA purchases.

Sitting Room

Let’s start in the entry room. If follow over on Instagram, you know that my sitting room was recently taken over by my husband and turned into his music room- haha!

Anyway… it all worked out. The settee was spray painted in a moss color and brought up to the screened-in porch. It looks like it was meant for the space! (You can check it out here.) But back to the sitting, I mean music, room. When we originally switched lighting, the electrician put up this IKEA light for us. With the room switch, my husband also incorporated this shelving unit for record and 8-track storage. It blends into the wall and has a bit of the modern aesthetic that can randomly be found throughout the cottage. He also coordinated the floor lamp with the pendant.

Kitchen

Upstairs in the kitchen, we again incorporated IKEA lighting. I love, love, love the texture that this pendant adds to the space. It feels very cottage-like with its basketweave.

I also recently added some green glasses to the open shelving. They are the perfect size for juice in the morning and adult beverages in the afternoon! And they help tie the kitchen in with my Ideal 3- I’m trying to have only 3 main colors (with pops of others, too, of course). So, the kitchen has all 3- white, green, and blue. If you want, you can check out the yellow before shots in this post.

We also added this ceiling lamp For the low price of about $35, we felt that it went well with the kitchen and was the best inconspicuous choice for this space.

Living and Dining Room

We knew that we wanted more seating in the living room. The Beach Cabin sleeps 10 people, so we wanted a space in which at least 6 of those 10 (more if you pull up some chairs) could gather. We also tend to host Father’s Day and a couple of birthdays out there in the summer/fall, so again, seating was a must. That said, we also knew there was a chance that kids might sit on the couch without remembering they were in their wet swimsuits and that snacks while watching Netflix would likely occur. IKEA was the right answer for this space: ample seating, comfortable cushions, slipcovered, and fairly inexpensive. You can check out it out here. You may recognize the floor lamp is similar to the one in the sitting room.

How to Effortlessly Incorporate IKEA into a Cottage | Beach Cabin Spring Living Room

We inherited a large dining table with the cottage. It was character-filled (literally!), hand painted, and each chair was sort of a painted outfit (e.g., cowboy, fancy lady, etc.). Our kids LOVED choosing which chair they’d sit in. But, when we brought in the sectional, we needed to relocate the table and the table and chairs didn’t fit in the new space. It was semi-challenging to find a table that was short enough to fit in the space with room for chairs, etc. We purchased the current table for under $100, stained, and sealed it. Admittedly, it isn’t my favorite. I think that the our forever table needs to be a bit longer. However, it was a fantastic price and is a great filler until we find the perfect table for the area. I sort of wish we would’ve white washed it or given it more of a beach-y stain to give it even more of a cottage feel. Even though it isn’t perfect for this space, I love the price and the fact that you can stain it to match your style.

Attic

The attic is one of my favorite spaces! You can check out our before and after photos by clicking here. In the summer, we usually just have sheets and the quilts on the beds. In the winter, we added IKEA duvets to layer in more warmth and to tie all of the beds together despite the mismatched quilts. IKEA bedding is a great and inexpensive way to coordinate multiple beds in the same space or to add in all of those cozy layers. The duvets we chose definitely have a cottage vibe with the blue and white colors and stripes.

Guest Bedroom

You can see the same duvet in our guest bedroom! It’s easier to see the stripes without the quilts. We kept this room simple with the white and blue-gray pallet. Again, this duvet just seemed so beach-y and cottage-like that it made sense to add it. Since this room was “hotel-inspired,” I took that as permission to have the duvets that were upstairs on repeat in the guest bedroom. Again, you can check out what it looked like when we moved in and the progress, here.

Well… at least, that’s it for now. I have one more IKEA trick up my sleeve, but I want the room to be a bit more finished before I share it!
